Wheat Rust on the March

Food prices are rising for a couple of different reasons: inflation, droughts, increased ethanol production, etc.  Well, here’s another possible reason.

Note that the article talks about how this particular variant of wheat rust has evolved to get around the selection process for wheat plants.  This could have a huge impact on prices for anything that relies on wheat either directly or indirectly for the next 5 years or more.

Growing one’s own wheat is impractical for many people.  I may pick up a couple of large sacks of flour soon.  I’ll keep an eye on this story…
